4 Types of Digital Marketing & Why They Work

Digital marketing has grown exponentially over the recent years. If you remember what advertising was like 20 years ago, you’ll remember when billboards, newspapers, magazines, radio, and TV advertisements were the most prominent advertising platforms in the marketing world. Now that the internet has evolved, marketing has shifted with the technology – and it works. There are also many different ways to go about digital marketing, so you can find what works best for you and your company. And often, a combination of multiple strategies can bring your company the most success.

At Scroll, we understand that digital marketing isn’t one-size-fits-all. What works for one company might not work for yours – and that’s okay. We know the ins and outs of each digital marketing strategy so we can make the right moves specifically for you – and we won’t stop until we make it happen. There are four main digital marketing strategies we like to focus on, so we’ll be talking about each of them in this blog post:

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Paid Ads
  • Social Media
  • Video

Here’s the rundown of what they are, why they work, and how they can help you grow.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization, AKA SEO, basically exists to get your website to the top of Google search results. This is something every business needs, and it’s a great way to drive organic traffic to your website.

We start by doing extensive keyword research. Once we find the best keywords, we create onsite recommendations that tell Google your site is helpful, informative, and worthy of a top spot when someone types those keywords into Google. While SEO is one of the best things you can do for your business, it’s definitely a long game – some keywords can take up to nine months to start ranking on the first page. But with patience, persistence, and SEO experts to back you up, sticking with an SEO strategy will be so worth it in the end.

SEO also allows you to tailor your strategy to the audience you’re looking to target. National campaigns generally consist of more competitive keywords, while local campaigns tend to focus on more niche keywords. Each situation and business is different, so we customize the campaign to meet your specific goals. Once we get your keywords on the first page, we move onto a new batch of keywords and repeat the process. If you want to know more about our SEO process, watch this video.

Paid Ads

Paid advertising is one of the most common and effective digital marketing methods. To be more specific, Google and Social ads provide some of the highest returns on ad spend (ROAS). First, let’s talk about Google.

Google ads are great if you’re a product or service looking for local clients. These help you show up in Google Maps and show up first in Google searches, which ultimately helps you increase website traffic and sales. Think about it – there are an estimated 5.6 billion Google searches PER DAY. That means someone is probably Googling what you’re offering right this second, so you should do everything you can to help them find you. That’s where Google Ads come in.

We can’t talk about paid ads without talking about social media. There are so many platforms where you can run paid ads – but Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest show some of the highest returns. Facebook and Instagram are great because you can target and retarget very specific audiences – which leads to more website traffic and sales. Targeting too big of an audience won’t get you far, but we help you target the smaller niche audiences who will want to see what you have to offer. And while Pinterest is more of a search engine than a social media platform, it also has high ROAS potential because of its targeting capabilities.

If this all feels overwhelming, don’t worry – we have a team of paid ad experts who are ready to help scale your business.

Social Media

Speaking of social media, you can run successful social media campaigns without spending a dime. Growing organically on social media definitely takes more time and patience, but it can be done. Here’s how we like to do it.

  • Visual Content: Social media is visual, so it only makes sense that you have to use visually appealing photos, videos, and graphics. We create this content to mirror your brand and show off your products or services.
  • Copy: Believe it or not, captions are important – Instagram and Facebook can now act as search engines, so we add keywords to your captions that help spread your content far and wide.
  • Hashtags: Hashtag strategy is important, especially when the algorithms change so often. We add hashtags specific to the posts to give it the highest reach potential.
  • Engagement: Social media companies love engagement – it is called “social” media after all. We create your content to be shareable, saveable, and likable to keep your account in good standing with the algorithms.

When it comes to social media marketing, don’t be afraid to try something new. Want to get on TikTok? Do it! Any exposure you can get from social media is great, and it could lead to massive growth for your company. Social media marketing works because there is a massive audience looking for what you have to offer – strategies just help them find you more quickly.

Video

Videos are arguably the most effective marketing tools you can possibly use. Social media platforms typically tend to value video over photo (although photo content is still important for social media), and platforms like TikTok and YouTube are video-only. When you have great video content, you can use it everywhere. Put it on social media. Share it on your website. Send it out in an email campaign. Use it in your paid ads – the options are endless, and it helps your customers connect with your brand and get to know you better.

Having a mix of long and short-form video content in your back pocket will do wonders for your company’s growth. At Scroll, we have a team dedicated to video production. They make incredible videos that reflect your brand and promote connection with your audience, so if you’re not sure where to start with video, contact us and we’ll schedule a meeting.

And FYI – just because video content is in the digital media spotlight right now doesn’t mean photo content isn’t important. It’s true that some platforms tend to prioritize videos in the algorithm, but photos are essential for your website, e-commerce, and social media (specifically Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest). We can help with photo content too, so reach out and we can collaborate.
